Introduction to Workshop:

Experienced construction professionals quickly learn that the more they know the more there is to learn.  Those committed to excellence are always seeking new insights and approaches to familiar problems as well as a heads up on evolving challenges.

Approach: 

The workshop will build upon and further develop concepts introduced in our core courses.

In a round table format, attendees will share experiences, plans, best practices and concerns for the future.  The moderators, Rich Townsend and Courtenay Thompson, will communicate lessons learned in the past year, along with audit & cost control procedures that worked and insights from that which did not.  Selected participants will share their expertise on a variety of topics. All will explore successes and challenges and how they have dealt with them.  Questions from registered attendees will be sent to participants before the Workshop to facilitate lively discussion.

For over 20 years we have provided training to assist owner organizations audit and control construction project activity.

Sharing - In a round-table format, you will have the opportunity to share experiences, plans, best practices and concerns for the future.  This sharing opportunity will be blended with presentations by the moderators, guest speakers, and participants. Ample opportunity will be provided for Q & A.

Informal Networking Opportunities

  • Reception the 1st night of the workshop to provide an opportunity for the group to stay together and further discuss issues and ideas
  • Breakfast will be provided each morning of the seminar
  • Mid-Morning and Mid-Afternoon refreshment breaks will be provided

  • Continental Breakfast will be provided Tuesday and Wednesday mornings
  • Lunch will be provided Tuesday and Wednesday at noon
  • We will host a short "networking reception" after the meeting on Tuesday evening

Cancellation and Refund

Enrollment is limited to assure maximum opportunity for participation and exchange of ideas. Substitutes will be accepted until the program starts. Cancellations will be accepted up to 14 calendar days prior to program start without incurring a $95 late cancellation fee. Full fee is charged for failure to attend when enrollment has not been canceled 14 days prior to the scheduled meeting. CPE

All participants are eligible to receive up to 16 Continuing Education Credits (CPE’s) to fulfill professional accreditation requirements. Field of Study: Auditing. Course Level: Advanced. Courtenay Thompson & Associates is registered with the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), as a sponsor of continuing professional education on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. Workshop Facilitators

Rich Townsend

Rich Townsend is CEO of the consulting firm R. L. Townsend & Associates, Inc., which provides construction audit and cost control consulting services for Owner organizations in the United States.

Mr. Townsend is a Certified Construction Auditor (CCA), a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), and a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). He is a graduate of Waynesburg College (Waynesburg, Pennsylvania) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in accounting.Rich Townsend is CEO of the consulting firm R. L. Townsend & Associates, Inc., which provides construction audit and cost control consulting services for Owner organizations in the United States.

For over 20 years, Mr. Townsend has been providing professional development training for Owner auditors and Owner construction management representatives for a wide variety of organizations and industries throughout the United States and Canada.  His seminars entitled "Controlling Construction Costs"  and "Effective Auditing of Construction Activity have been presented in affiliation with Courtenay Thompson & Associates.

 

Courtenay Thompson
 

Mr. Courtenay M. Thompson is a recognized authority on fraud-related training for internal auditors, management and investigators. Since entering the educational consulting field in 1981, he has written and presented courses for corporations, government and professional associations worldwide.

He is the co-developer of courses on audit and control of construction costs, and has developed and presented courses on purchasing fraud and contract auditing. His courses are known for providing practical approaches to real problems.

Mr. Thompson's experience prior to consulting includes public accounting, audit supervisor for consumer financial services for a large retailer, and director of auditing for a life insurance company.  Mr. Thompson received his BBA and MBA degrees from Southern Methodist University and is a Certified Public Accountant. He is a member of various accounting and auditing professional associations.
